Poon Hill
FAQFrequently asked questions
What is Poon Hill and how high is it?
This is an observation hill at an altitude of 3210 m in the Annapurna region (Gandaki province, Nepal), on the border of Myagdi and Kaski districts. They climb here for the sake of the views, not for the sake of the hill itself.
What mountains can be seen from here?
Half of the Nepalese giants can be seen from here - Dgaulagiri (8167 m), Annapurna I (8091 m), Annapurna II (7937 m), Machhapuchhare (6993 m) and a bunch of peaks over 6000 m. This is why everyone comes at dawn.
How to get there?
Start from Pokhara, then walk for 2-3 days along the Gorepani - Poon Hill trekking route. You will not be allowed on the trail without an ACAP permit (issued in Kathmandu or Pokhara), so take care of the paper in advance.
When is the best time to go there and what to see?
The classic program is to go up at dawn, because that's when the snow-capped peaks of Annapurna light up with the first sun. Poon Hill itself is part of the popular Gorepani trek - Poon Hill and the gateway to the Annapurna Sanctuary within the reserve of the same name.
Is it far from the capital?
About 270 km west of Kathmandu. That is, not the neighboring yard, but a completely accessible point for those who have already come to Nepal to walk in the mountains.
