What is Tilicho and what makes it special?
This is a Himalayan lake in northern Nepal, which is considered one of the highest lakes on the planet - it lies at an altitude of 4919 meters. Sandwiched between four peaks, including Tilicho itself.
What are the dimensions of the lake?
About 4 km long and 1.2 km wide, the area is 4.8 km². That is, not a puddle, but a full-fledged body of water at a height where most people are already suffocating.
How to get there?
The lake lies on the trekking route from Manang to Jomsom that passes over its northeastern shore. The path is marked by vertically placed stones - focus on it.
How difficult is the route?
The lake version is more difficult than the main one and is suitable only for experienced trekkers. If it snows, it is better not to stumble without special equipment.
What interesting facts should you know?
In 2000, Russian divers dived more than 150 meters here. Animals include red plankton in the lake, and snow leopards and blue sheep roam around.
