What is the Golden Ring of Iceland?
The tourist route in the southwest of the island is a loop of about 300 km, which leads from Reykjavík to the southern highlands and returns. The name was coined by the Icelandic Tourism Board to encourage guests to explore the surrounding area more actively.
What must be seen on the way?
Three main stops: Thingvedlir National Park with its prominent rift valley, Güdlfoss waterfall and Geysir geothermal valley. It is from the geyser there that the word 'geyser' in many languages came from.
Will I see a real geyser erupt?
Old Geysir is mostly dormant right now, so don't count on him. But the nearby Strokkure emits a stream every 5-10 minutes - you will have time to look and point the camera.
Where to start the route and what else will happen along the way?
They usually start from Reykjavik. In addition to the three stars of the route, there are Kerid crater, Brewarfoss and Faxi waterfalls, the town of Gveragerdi, the cathedral in Skaulholt and even a couple of geothermal power plants along the way.
