MeteoWeb, citing Lombardy’s Soccorso Alpino e Speleologico (CNSAS), reports that from 11 October 2026 search teams looked for a 26-year-old man between Val Gerola and Valle di Bema in Valtellina after he failed to return home. The Morbegno station (VII Delegazione Valtellina–Valchiavenna), Soccorso Alpino Guardia di Finanza, Carabinieri, firefighters and civil protection took part — about seventy rescuers in all, plus drones, search dogs (including scent dogs), and helicopters from AREU Sondrio and the Vigili del Fuoco.

Gazzetta delle Valli and Valtellina Notizie write that Lorenzo Bianchini of Morbegno went missing after leaving on foot toward Val Gerola on 10 October; on 12 October he was found dead in the Val Gerola–Bema area (reports place the find near the Bitto stream / a mountain road verge). The cause of death was still under investigation when those sources published.
