Southern Bug rapids (3 days)
Three days on inflatable catamarans and kayaks on the Southern Bug rapids: leave Kyiv (Lybidska metro) for Strilchentsi, paddle, a rest day running Kyivskyi rapid, then the Pechera rapids and a finish at the Potocki mill in Sokilets.
This is the longer take on the same Vinnytsia stretch as the two-day trip, not a run on to Bratslav. A minibus carries bags along the bank. Two sets of clothes - for the water and for camp.
Day by dayItinerary
1 Day 1. Kyiv, Strilchentsi, start of the paddle
Around 7:00 we leave Kyiv from Lybidska metro. Around noon, the village of Strilchentsi, a snack, load the catamarans and kayaks, safety briefing. On the water after 14:00.
By evening - camp, dinner by the fire. Tomorrow is a rest day, so the bags need not be packed for a full move.
2 Day 2. Rest day at Kyivskyi rapid
Rest day. Breakfast in camp. We run catamarans on Kyivskyi rapid - one of the liveliest on this stretch of the Bug. A swim in a rapid that feels like a jacuzzi.
After lunch - a walk: a crag with a river panorama and a stream with a small waterfall. Dinner, lights-out with an early start (around 8:00).
3 Day 3. Pechera rapids, Potocki mill, Kyiv
Breakfast, paddle on to Sokilets, lunch in a forest clearing. Pechera rapids and the bypass canal by the dam. Finish at the Potocki mill (1899; after the 1992 fire a roofless ruin).
Pack the gear, leave for Kyiv around 17:00, arrive late evening.
