Southern Bug rapids (2 days)
Two days on inflatable catamarans and kayaks on the Southern Bug rapids in Vinnytsia region: Saturday from Kyiv (Lybidska metro) to the village of Strilchentsi, a paddle and a night in tents, Sunday through the Pechera rapids to the Potocki watermill at Sokilets and back to Kyiv.
This is the granite Middle Buh stretch, not Myhiia. A minibus follows the group: personal bags and camp gear travel by road to the overnight. Bring two sets of clothes and shoes - for the water and for camp: the bed can be sharp, so do not wade barefoot. Children aged 7-16 only with an adult.
Day by dayItinerary
1 Day 1. Kyiv, Strilchentsi, paddle and camp on the Bug
Saturday. Around 7:00 we leave Kyiv from Lybidska metro. Around noon we reach the village of Strilchentsi in Vinnytsia region, have a light lunch, rig the catamarans and kayaks and go through a safety briefing. On the water after 14:00.
By evening we pitch camp. Anyone not on kitchen duty can walk the bank or swim in a rapid that feels like a jacuzzi. Dinner by the fire. Wake-up the next morning is around 8:00.
2 Day 2. Pechera rapids, Potocki mill, return to Kyiv
Sunday. Breakfast, strike camp. Around 10:00 we paddle on towards Sokilets. Lunch (around 13:00) in a forest clearing.
Then come the Pechera rapids and the bypass canal by the dam. We finish at the Potocki watermill in Sokilets: an 1899 complex (architect Jan Goyrich, commissioned by Konstanty Potocki). After the 1992 fire it stands without a roof or floors - a ruin, not a museum.
Pack the gear, leave for Kyiv around 17:00, arrive late evening (the old programme said about 23:00).
