Tsminda Sameba
Tsminda Sameba, also known as the Hergeti Trinity Church, is the same church of the 14th century that appears on almost every Georgian postcard. It stands alone on a slope near Kazbek, at an altitude of about 2,170 meters, so people come here primarily for the view.
The starting point is Stepantsminda on the Military-Georgian road. Up either on foot on a steep path or by jeep-transfer: the serpentine is too much for an ordinary passenger car. From above, if the clouds have mercy, you can see Kazbek, the Tereku valley and the town below.
Do not confuse with the huge modern Sameba Cathedral in Tbilisi - the name is the same, but the places are completely different. The Hergetian Church is old, small and high in the mountains, which is why it is truly impressive.

Kazbek itself, if the clouds have mercy, plus the valley of Terek and Stepantsminda below. Nearby, a medieval bell tower has survived - the only cross-domed church in the entire Hevi region.
Should it be confused with Sameba from Tbilisi?
No. Tbilisi has its own huge modern Tsminda Sameba Cathedral, consecrated in 2004. Hergetiyska is old, small and high in the mountains. The name is the same, but the places are completely different.
