Mountain 📍 Carpathians

FAQFrequently asked questions

What is Gemini and why does it have two peaks?

This is a mountain in the eastern part of the Svidovets massif in the Ukrainian Carpathians, and in fact it is double: the northern peak reaches 1883 m, the southern one - 1872 m. They stand next to each other and are similar in shape, hence the name - Blyznytsia, i.e. twins.

Where is it and how to get there?

The mountain lies in the Rakhiv district of the Transcarpathian region. The classic way is to go along the popular route along the "Peaks of Svidovets" ridge from Yasin to Ust-Chorna; Gemini will be one of the main points on this path.

What is interesting to see on the slopes?

A real glacial karst with remnants of moraine and small lakes is preserved here - the heritage of ancient glaciers. Coniferous and beech forests grow up to a height of about 1,400 m, and above that begins an open high-altitude landscape with views of Svidovets.

Why is Gemini valuable for nature?

The mountain is part of the Svydovetsky protected massif of the Carpathian Biosphere Reserve. It has a botanical monument with relict plants - edelweiss and eight-petalled dryad are found here, so it is definitely not worth plucking the flowers.

What is the mountain itself made of?

Geologically, these are sandstones with layers of limestone. The relative height above the surrounding area is about 1000 meters, so the height gain is noticeable, and the reward is a wide view of the Svidovets ridges.
