Yasinya
FAQFrequently asked questions
What is Ash and where is it?
This is a village in Transcarpathia, Rakhiv district, at an altitude of about 650 meters above sea level above the Black Tisza River. It lies at the foot of two massifs - Chornohora and Svidovets, so the mountains are just outside the window.
Where does the name Yasinya come from?
According to the legend, the shepherd Ivan Struk lost his flock in an ash thicket during a sudden snowfall, and in the spring he found the sheep alive and with offspring. In honor of this, the village was founded and named Ash - it is not necessary to check the legend yourself.
What is worth seeing here?
The Strukiv wooden church of 1824 is one of the most famous wooden churches in the country, which in 2013 was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Looking for nails in a classic Hutsul building is in vain.
How to get here?
There is its own Yasinya railway station, so you can arrive by train without unnecessary transfers somewhere in the mountains.
When is the best time to go?
It depends on what you want: in the summer - hiking in Montenegro and Svidovets, in the winter - skiing, because Dragobrat and Bukovel are nearby. Leave the off-season to those who love mud and silence.
