What is Steinsdalsfossen and what makes it special?
This is a waterfall in Norway, in the municipality of Kvam (Vestlann), on the river Foscelva. The total height is about 46 meters, the largest individual drop is about 20 meters. The main feature: the path leads right behind the wall of water, so you can look at the water from the inside without getting wet.
How to get there?
The waterfall is located approximately 2 km west of the town of Norheimsund, near the village of Steine. There is a parking lot nearby, and further on - a footpath along and behind the waterfall.
When is the best time to come?
The largest amount of water is in May-June, when the snow melts, then the waterfall thunders in full. It is easiest to get there in the summer, and the path by the water is the most pleasant then.
Why did he appear at all?
The waterfall was formed in 1699, when the river laid a new course for itself. That is, by Norwegian standards, this is not even a very old story.
Are there any interesting facts about visitors?
The German Kaiser Wilhelm II came here every year from 1889 until the beginning of the First World War in 1914. Today, the waterfall attracts about 300,000 tourists a year - it even lit up at the Expo 2000 exhibition in Hanover.
