FAQFrequently asked questions

What is the Valley of Butterflies and why is it called that?

This is a narrow canyon with steep cliffs up to 400 meters high on the Mediterranean coast of Turkey. The name was given by more than 80 species of butterflies living here, the most famous being the Jersey tiger. That is, there are really more insects than tourists in the off-season.

Where is it and how to get there?

The canyon lies near Fethiye in the province of Mugla, within the Oludeniz resort. The easiest way is to take a boat from Oludeniz, which will take you directly to the beach. There is also a walking option: the path from the top, from the village of Faralya, but it is steep and rocky, so it is better with a guide and without flip-flops.

When is the best time to go?

The valley welcomes guests from approximately March 1 to November 1. In the hot summer there are the most people and boats; it is greener in the spring, and you can really see butterflies only in the warm months.

What to see here besides the beach?

A path leads deep into the canyon to a waterfall about 50 meters high - the water flows from the village of Faralja through the valley to the sea. There is lush Mediterranean vegetation around, and the territory itself has had the status of a protected natural zone since 1995.

Is it possible to spend the night here?

Yes, there is an eco-camp with tents and bungalows on site, so you can stay overnight instead of fleeing on the last boat. In addition to swimming, various workshops are held here - from cooking and yoga to maritime affairs.
