FAQFrequently asked questions

What is Reinebringen and why climb there?

This is a mountain 448 meters high above the village of Reine on the island of Moskenesøya in the Norwegian Lofoten archipelago. The top offers the same view of Reinefjord and red fishing huts that you've seen on half the postcards about Norway.

How to get up?

Once the trail was steep, bumpy and downright unpleasant. In 2016-2019, Nepalese Sherpas laid stone steps, so now the ascent is accessible to the average tourist, and not only to avid rock climbers.

When is the best time to go?

In summer, there is a long day and even the polar sun at midnight, so there is enough light for any pace. You can also climb it in winter, but the weather and slippery stairs turn the walk into a challenge.

What can be seen from the top?

Reinefjord, the surrounding sharp mountains and the picturesque village of Reine below. This shot has been reproduced on the covers of tourist booklets and books about Lofoten for years.

Is there anything to be wary of?

Yes. Even with new stairs, this is the Arctic: the weather can change quickly and without warning, so dress for all seasons and don't rely on the sun that just came out.
