Chernivtsi

The city has its own airport, railway station and bus station with flights from Kyiv, Lviv and Ivano-Frankivsk. It takes about 12 hours to travel by train from Kyiv, 4-5 hours from Lviv. About 3.5 hours by car from Lviv on the H10 highway.

A must-see is the Residence of the Metropolitans of Bukovina and Dalmatia, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, now the main building of the university. Next, you should walk along Olga Kobylyanska pedestrian street and the central square with the town hall, take a look at the Armenian Church and Turkish Square. The historical center is compact, so it is possible to walk around everything.

The residence operates as part of the Chernivtsi National University, so the inner courtyards are almost always accessible, and the main halls are allowed with a tour. It is best to come in the morning or in the early afternoon when there are fewer groups. The schedule of excursions should be clarified on the spot or in advance, because it depends on the educational process.

Chernivtsi is a convenient base for traveling to the mountainous part of the region: there are regular buses and minibuses from bus stations to Vyzhnytsia and Beregomet. Routes to the Bukovyna Carpathians, in particular to the "Vyzhnytskyi" national nature park, already start from there. Further into the mountains (Putila, Poloniny) it is better to have your own car, because public transport becomes rarer.

The optimal months are May-June and September, when it is warm, green and there is no summer suffocation. In the summer, the city lives with festivals, but there are also more tourists. Late spring and early autumn are also suitable for trips to the Bukovyna Carpathians, and in winter the mountain roads are capricious.
