What is Deniz Gölü and why is it interesting?
This is a glacial lake in the Kachkar Mountains in northeastern Turkey. Its Turkish name translates as "big sea lake", and it is the deepest glacial lake in the country - up to 60 meters deep.
At what height is the lake?
At 3384 meters above sea level. So high that the road there is not a walk, but a serious climb.
How to get there?
They usually start from the village of Yailalar in Yusufeli district (Artvin province). Then - walk for about 5-6 hours to the lake itself.
How big is it?
The lake is the largest in area among the reservoirs of the Kachkar range - about 23 acres (approximately 9 hectares). That is, not a puddle, but a full-fledged mountain mirror.
When is the best time to go?
The Wikipedia article does not name a specific season, but at such an altitude the window without snow is short - aim for a warm summer and check the condition of the trail on the spot.
