Bad weather cut off travelers on a mountain trail in the Monti Lattari massif
During a sharp deterioration in weather conditions in the Monti Lattari mountain range, in the Corbara municipality of the Salerno province, two hikers found themselves stranded on the sentiero 340A mountain route. Due to the difficult conditions, the boys from Scafati and Battipaglia were unable to continue safely and asked for help.
The alarm was recorded by the coordination service GEORESQ Corpo Nazionale Soccorso Alpino e Speleologico, after which an operational group of rescuers and doctors from the region Campania went to the mountains. Specialists reached the tourists at around 10:30, secured them and warmed them.
After providing first aid, the rescuers accompanied the young people along the trail to the foot of the mountain. In the valley, medical workers from the 118 service from the city of Angri were already waiting for the travelers to conduct the necessary examination.
Context
The sentiero 340A trail is part of the extensive hiking network of the Monti-Monti Lattari Regional Park, connecting with route 340 on the slopes of the Cerreto massif. This sector is located along the historic mud paths between the communities of Angri, Corbara and Lettere, where mountain climbs alternate with old chestnut forests and viewpoints over the Sarno Valley and Vesuvius.
The northern slopes of the ridge are characterized by rugged terrain with loose volcanic lapilli deposits underfoot and steep sections where, in conditions of sharp deterioration in weather, fog, or downpours, visibility of landmarks quickly drops and the ground becomes slippery.
