The Korea Mountain Rescue Association, in collaboration with the Korea Forest Service and the Korea Hiking Support Center, has been carrying out preventive work to eliminate the threat of rockfalls on popular hiking routes. The activities covered five mountain areas across the country: Yeonmasan in Seoul, Munhaksan in Incheon, Hamaksan in Gangwon Province, Moaksan in Jeonbuk, and Hakgasan in Gyeongbuk.

The process consisted of ten trips — two to each mountain location. Each operation involved a team of five professional mountain rescuers. Before starting work, specialists thoroughly inspected the slopes, identified problem sectors, installed banners about trail closures, and posted guards to restrict access to travelers.

The unstable stone blocks were dismantled using special climbing equipment, following step-by-step safety measures to avoid secondary collapses. After the threat was eliminated, the work areas were cleared of debris and arranged for safe movement.

Context

In addition to the physical clearing of slopes, 20 new information boards have been installed on key sections of the East-West route. They visually mark potentially dangerous sectors of the terrain, helping travelers assess conditions in time and avoid risky crossings.
