Chasing a wild animal led a dog into a rock trap on Table Mountain
During an evening jog along the popular Pipe Track route on the Table Mountain slopes, the dog spotted a taro — a wild ungulate — and rushed after it down a steep cliff. The descent turned out to be a trap: the four-legged friend got stuck on a narrow rocky ledge about 80 meters below the trail, unable to get out on his own.
The owner started to descend, but stopped in time when the terrain became too dangerous, and called specialists. The rescue team deployed climbing equipment, descended to the dog, placed it in a special bag for rope climbing and pulled it out onto the trail. The operation was successfully completed at 22:45, returning the animal to its owner.

Context
The slopes of Table Mountain are cut by sheer rock belts and precipices, making even a small departure from the trail quickly deadly. Wild tar are adapted to travel on such steep slopes, while domestic dogs are easily trapped on exposed ledges.
