Solisko: the last ride had already gone
Slovakia’s mountain rescue service (HZS) reports two afternoon call-outs on 17 October 2026: in the High Tatras and in Slovak Paradise.
The mountain-rescue dispatch took a request to help two Czech women aged 80 and 68 who had missed the last cable-car run from Solisko and were exhausted. One professional and two volunteer rescuers from Starý Smokovec went out. After a phone arrangement the women walked toward them; they met at Medvedia kopa and were driven in an off-road vehicle to Štrbské Pleso. They had no injuries and left on their own.
The same day the Košice ambulance control asked mountain rescuers to assist CPR for a 71-year-old Slovak man who had collapsed unconscious and stopped breathing on the way back from a hike near Letanovský Mlyn. Passing hikers had already started basic CPR. Four rescuers from the Slovak Paradise station met the doctor-staffed ambulance crew in Letanovce and took them in an off-road vehicle. On site both services continued advanced CPR. Vital signs could not be restored; the body was taken to the regional station, where an examining doctor arrived. HZS expressed condolences to the family.

Context
The Solisko cable car is the usual quick way down to Štrbské Pleso: once the cabin has gone, a marked path becomes an evening descent. Letanovský Mlyn, by contrast, sits on the edge of Slovak Paradise, almost by the village — and the ambulance still needed a mountain vehicle from Letanovce. One October afternoon, two different distances from the road.
