· Spain · Safety & hazards

Aragón Digital reports that over Spain’s Pilar long weekend (10–12 October 2026) in the Aragonese Pyrenees (Huesca province) Guardia Civil GREIM mountain teams and the Huesca air unit, with 061 doctors, carried out 15 mountain rescues and helped 25 people — falls, injuries, exhaustion and disorientation. Calls came via 112 SOS Aragón to Guardia Civil central 062.

Europa Press, Cadena SER and Heraldo detail the 11–12 October slice: eight further operations and 11 people assisted (six of them injured); no deaths are reported in those call-outs.

Saturday 10 October was the heaviest day: seven operations and 14 people, per Aragón Digital. Among the most serious was a possible heart attack on a hiker heading for the Respomuso hut (Sallent de Gállego): he and a companion were flown to Panticosa and then by a 112 medical helicopter to a Zaragoza hospital.

The same day crews rescued a 78-year-old woman from Zaragoza after a slope fall in the las Menorias gully (Canfranc) — taken to Jaca hospital — plus injuries on Anayet, on the Canaletas ridge in the Remuñe valley, on the Picos del Infierno, an 18-year-old with exhaustion and fainting at the Gradas de Soaso, and three climbers lifted off Balaitús after exhaustion and disorientation.

On Sunday 11 October, near the Arriel and Chela lakes (Sallent de Gállego), a Pamplona couple (22 and 23) were evacuated after a fall with height change; the injured woman went by ambulance to Jaca hospital.

Separately: a 54-year-old from Pamplona with bruises after a stumble near Castillo de Acher (Hecho); a 43-year-old climber from Alfaro hit by falling rock on the leg at Ligüerre climbing school (Abizanda); a Logroño pair at Collado de Millaris (Gistaín) — tibial bruise for the woman, evacuated to the Viadós hut.

Also on Sunday: a 34-year-old from Madrid unable to continue from fatigue on the Clavijas de Carriata (Torla), lifted to the Ordesa meadow; another 54-year-old from Madrid with a knee sprain after a stumble in the Añisclo canyon (Fanlo).

On Monday 12 October (Día del Pilar) two Madrid climbers (29 and 33) were helicoptered off Peña Foratata (Sallent de Gállego) on the Valle de Tena route — the man with a possible shoulder injury.

The same day a 52-year-old Belgian hiker who became disoriented near the Peña Rueba via ferrata (Agüero) and could not continue was flown to Monflorite airport and returned to his own car.
