Olympus: body of Israeli hiker found
On 9 October the body of Ami Yogev, a 46-year-old Israeli tourist from Modi’in, was found on Mount Olympus in Greece. He had been missing for nearly three weeks while hiking the country’s highest mountain.
He last contacted relatives on 20 September 2026 during the ascent, saying he was on the “mountain of the gods.” From 21 September there was no reply; the family turned to the Israeli embassy in Athens, and the search went through the Dion-Olympus police station.
The rental car he had driven from Athens was found parked in Litochoro. Witness accounts placed him last in the area between the Spilios Agapitos and Kakkalos refuges.
A private Israeli search group located the body at Mavrolakkos, around 1,800 m, in hard-to-reach terrain. Greek fire service units then handled recovery: the 2nd and 8th EMAK teams and a foot unit from Litochoro.
Firefighters with drones (when weather allowed) and the local mountaineering community had already been searching for weeks. How he died had not yet been clarified in the first reports.
