Mount Ararat

Mount Ararat (Ağrı Dağı) is a dormant volcano in Turkey's far east and the country's highest point at 5137 m. Its lone snowy cone above the Ararat plain is visible for tens of kilometres; it is a national symbol for Armenians and, by the biblical account, the resting place of Noah's Ark. The climb is non-technical but high-altitude: the base is the town of Doğubayazıt with its fairytale İshak Pasha Palace, from where camps at 3200 and 4200 m lead to the summit.
