DAV huts are shutting the summer season

· Alps · Trail closures

The German Alpine Club has posted 2026 summer closing dates for its staffed huts. The list covers nearly 190 places with daytime service and overnight stays. The first high huts — especially in the Ötztal, Stubai and nearby ranges — are already closed: about twenty so far.

By the end of September roughly half of the seasonal huts will be shut. Most of the rest wind down by mid-October; by the end of that month the summer network is almost gone. Only a handful stay listed into November, mostly lower huts in the Bavarian Prealps.

DAV marks only about seven huts as year-round, mainly in the Prealps and Kitzbühel Alps, sometimes with a rest day or a short maintenance break. A few are closed for rebuilding. Weather can move the dates: check with the hut before you go. In the cold months some winter rooms remain — emergency lodging, not full summer service.

Hut-to-hut windows are already shrinking. The full list by mountain group is on the DAV page.
