How to upload GPX to Garmin Connect
Guide: Garmin Connect + GPX
Your file is never uploaded — processing stays in your browser.
Garmin Connect accepts GPX (and often FIT/TCX). We never receive your file — this is import guidance only.
Steps (web / app)
- Sign in to Garmin Connect (web or mobile app).
- Web: top-right “+” / Import Data → choose your GPX → import as a Course or Activity (UI varies).
- Mobile: Menu → Courses / Training → import, or Share the file → Garmin Connect.
- Sync the course to your watch / GPS via Garmin Connect or Garmin Express.
If the device rejects the file for point limits, run Simplify GPX first (eTrex / Edge / Fenix presets). Convert FIT with FIT→GPX.
Upload GPX to Garmin Connect and your device. Simplify if Connect rejects the file.
We never receive your file.
FAQ
How do I import GPX into Garmin Connect on a computer?
In Connect click “+”, choose Import Data, then pick the GPX file.
For navigation, should I use a Course or an Activity?
Route navigation usually needs a Course, not an Activity recording.
What if Connect complains about file size?
Simplify the track with your device preset in Simplify GPX, then import again.
Can I convert FIT to GPX first?
Yes. If you have FIT, convert FIT → GPX and then import the GPX into Connect.
Does USB copy to an Edge still work?
On some Edges put the file in Garmin/NewFiles. Check the exact path in the device manual.
Why is the course missing on the watch after import?
Wait for sync and check the Courses section on the device.
