Galicia bans a former drug baron’s “narcotour”
Former Galician drug baron Laureano Oubiña wanted to sell dark tourism in the first person: 9 hours by boat on the Ría de Arousa, 15 spots that “defined an era”, lunch included, €189, up to 250 people, start on 29 August from the port of O Grove. The slogan: “a story never told first-hand.”
The Xunta de Galicia cancelled the tour. Formally over a licence. Separately, the authorities speak of a blow to the region’s image.
The Independent places this in the wider row of dark tourism: from Auschwitz and Alcatraz to the Pablo Escobar tour.
