Ai-Petri cable car

The cable car to Ai-Petri is a very popular thing, and I think there is no need to explain what it is. But it’s worth talking about some of the features of its use (prices, schedules, queues and alternatives).

Fare.

In July 2008, the cost of travel on the cable car (one way) is 40 hryvnia (about 9 dollars or 200 rubles). A child ticket costs 20 hryvnia. Please note that you also have to pay for luggage, and not a little. For example, transporting an ordinary tourist backpack costs 20 hryvnia. Carrying a bicycle on the cable car, in theory, should cost even more.

Queues.

In the summer, at the height of the season, a huge number of vacationers strive to visit Ai-Petri. Huge buses bring them here from all over Crimea. And due to the limited capacity of the cable car, gigantic queues form. Especially a lot of people gather at the lower station in Miskhor. Prepare to wait at least an hour. You can get down from the top station without a queue on the first morning flights (the majority of people go down at this time).

Opening hours.

This may seem illogical to you, but the cable car does not operate around the clock. In winter, you can go up to Ai-Petri from .. until 16 o'clock, and go down from 11 to 17. In summer, the cable car starts operating from 9, and ends at .. (I don’t know, but later than in winter). Don't miss the last trailer, otherwise you'll have to spend the night on the mountain or look for alternative descent options.

Alternative descent options.

Not only a cable car leads up, but also an ordinary asphalt one. Therefore, you can use motor transport to descend. A taxi from Ai-Petri to Yalta costs about the same as the ride on the cable car. In this case, you won’t have to stand in line, but you will need to endure the descent along a real mountain serpentine road (you get motion sickness). There are also free descent options - numerous trails leading from the plateau to the coast. The most famous: Miskhorskaya (starts right from the upper cable car station) and Taraktashskaya (you need to walk a couple of kilometers to get there). Be careful - the trails are steep, broken, with screes and other inconveniences. If you doubt your abilities, it is better not to take risks. It will take at least 2 hours to descend the trail - so you shouldn’t do it at night.
