What to do when meeting a bear?

Every year in North America, about 10 cases of bear attacks on people are recorded, of which one is fatal. Those. not so many, although there are countless bears there.
  1. the bear becomes aggressive when it encounters people unexpectedly. That is, when you walk through the forest, you need to talk loudly, make noise, sing songs so that he notices you long ago and has time to hide. If a bear notices people in advance, in 95% of cases it tries to hide and leave.
  2. not a single case of a bear attacking a group of 4 or more people has been recorded (over the entire observation period - 50-100 years!). Although attacks on 2 and 3 still happened, they were much less common than on 1. Those. everywhere you have to walk in a crowd and not stretch out.
Hooray! If you try to comply with 1. and 2., then everything will be fine. If a person does encounter a bear one on one, then, based on the experience of many people, it is best to do the following:
  1. try not to disturb him and slowly leave, backing away. Don’t run headlong right away, otherwise this will overly attract his attention (their vision is worse than human vision, bears are myopic) and he will chase and catch up like a dog! (bears run much faster than people).
  2. do not look the bear in the eye.
  3. if the bear approaches you (for example, a mother bear is protecting her children) and wants to “touch” a person, you must lie down on the ground and play dead. Lie curled up. When approaching, the bear can move its “body” with its paw a couple of times or try with its teeth. To prevent him from doing this on your head, you need to cover your head (not your face!) with your hands or cover it with a backpack. The main thing, when the bear is gone, is not to get up too early!!! Make sure you get it 100% and then wait. Otherwise, if he sees that he was deceived, he will return and be very aggressive.
  4. if a bear chases you or breaks into a tent or house - fight back to the last. Always fight off polar bears and black bears, no matter the circumstances. The weakest point of the beast is its nose. There are only nerve endings there. If you manage to hit it with a stick, the bear will scream and run away (you can even cut off a dog if you hit it on the nose).

That's all you need to know. They also write in the books that gas canisters turned out to be an ineffective means of repelling bears. The black bear is found only in North America.
