Forbidden City

This is a giant imperial palace complex in the center of Beijing (yes, in China, not Nepal). For almost five centuries, from 1420 to 1924, Chinese emperors lived and ruled here, and the entrance was closed to mere mortals - hence the name.

Very. The complex is spread over approximately 72 hectares (961 meters from north to south and 753 from east to west) and has about 980 buildings. The legend of 9999 rooms is beautiful, but not documented.

Hall of Higher Harmony - the largest ceremonial hall with a height of about 30 meters, the Palace of Heavenly Purity, the Imperial Garden and rows of palaces of former imperial wives. And there is also a museum with almost 1.86 million exhibits: porcelain, paintings, bronze, jade and even a thousand antique clocks.

With walls almost 8 meters high and a moat 52 meters wide and 6 meters deep. The roofs are almost everywhere covered with yellow glazed tiles - yellow was the color of the emperor, so it was not allowed to wear it excessively.

What's more: the complex has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1987 and receives 14-19 million visitors every year. That is, the chance to be alone here is almost zero.
