Trolltunga

This is a rocky ledge that juts out horizontally from the mountain at an altitude of 1126 m above sea level and about 700 m above the Ringedalsvatnet lake. It looks as if someone carved a springboard out of the mountain, and below is a void; it is for this photo that people go all the way.

It is in the municipality of Ullensvang, fülke Vestlann, the nearest town is Odda (about 11 miles). The route starts from the village of Šeggedal; there is a paid parking lot (about 500 kroner per day), and since 2017 there is a toll road to the Maglitopp plateau and shuttle buses, which slightly reduce the pain of walking.

There and back - about 27 km with an elevation gain of 1100 m, which takes 10-12 hours with breaks. The Norwegian Tourist Association honestly calls the route difficult: it is better not to start without endurance and normal equipment.

The season for most is from mid-June to mid-September. Beyond that, there is snow, so in winter and spring people go there only with a guide on snowshoes or skis, starting somewhere in March.

The outcrop is part of the Precambrian massif, and it got its shape about 10,000 years ago, when a glacier cut the mountain. The crowd is a recent phenomenon: in 2010, less than 800 people arrived here, and by 2016 there were more than 80,000.
