Todgha Gorge
FAQFrequently asked questions
What is Todra and where to find it?
Todra (aka Todga) is a series of limestone canyons in the eastern part of the High Atlas in Morocco, near the town of Tingir. The river of the same name has cut through them for thousands of years.
How high are the canyon walls?
The rock walls are up to 400 meters high. In the narrowest place, the gorge narrows to ten meters, and the surrounding walls rise to 160 meters - it feels as if you are walking along the bottom of a stone crevasse.
Which section is the most effective?
The last 600 meters of the gorge. It is here that the walls are the highest and the passage is the narrowest - the rest of the canyon stretches for 24 kilometers, but this final section takes all the attention.
When is the best time to go?
During the dry season, the bottom is almost without water, and it is easy to walk through it. In the rains, the river can overflow and turn the bottom into a powerful stream, so you should check the season in advance if you don't want wet feet up to the knees.
What to do here, besides looking at the wall?
Smooth vertical rocks have long been liked by rock climbers, and the gorge itself is a classic point for a hiking route along the bottom of the canyon. The height of the bottom is about 1500 meters, so the air here is already mountainous.
