In the evening, two hikers — a 54-year-old woman and her 20-year-old son — went for a walk with two dogs near lac Achard near the Chamrousse ski resort. After going off the trail about fifteen meters, they were unable to find their way due to the darkness, and they had no flashlight with them.

At 18:30, the travelers turned to the CRS Alpes unit for help. The situation was complicated by the altitude of about 2000 meters above sea level, where the air temperature dropped to 4 ° C. Thanks to the transmitted geolocation of the mobile phone, rescuers quickly determined the location of the people and reached them in an SUV.

According to the mountain services of the Isère department, specialists carried out a total of eight rescue operations that day, including calls for fractures, technical difficulties on routes, and an incident during climbing. In none of the cases were serious injuries recorded.
