Autoridade Marítima Nacional (AMN) has issued a warning of danger due to rough seas off the mainland coast and the Madeira archipelago. As part of the "Mar de Inverno" awareness campaign, the agency emphasizes that after the end of the official bathing season, beaches are no longer constantly supervised by lifeguards, while the strength of the waves increases significantly.

Experts note that the ocean can change its character dramatically even in sunny and moderately warm weather. The list of key precautions includes avoiding walking along the very edge of the water, staying on breakwaters, coastal cliffs and in areas where waves break. Fishermen are advised to be extra vigilant near rocks, and shipowners are advised to securely fasten mooring lines at piers and anchorages.
