Bad step on the trail to Montallegro near Rapallo - tourist taken away by helicopter
While walking along the hiking trail leading to Montallegro in the Rapallo area, a 69-year-old tourist sprained his ankle and was no longer able to walk. The incident occurred at 4:11 p.m. and the signal to rescuers was transmitted by his wife, who was with him on the route.
A fire brigade from Rapallo, volunteers from the Sant’Anna organization, and mountain rescue specialists were deployed to provide assistance. Due to the impossibility of independent descent from the base in Sestri Ponente, a fire helicopter "Drago" was deployed.
Rescuers took the injured person on board and transported him to the emergency room of the Villa Scassi hospital. The patient was hospitalized with a "green" priority code.

Context
The hiking route from Rapallo to the Montallegro sanctuary follows a historic 16th-century cobbled mule track that climbs about 600 meters in elevation through holm oak forests and terraces. The stone surface of the trail, uneven steep steps and switchbacks become slippery in wet weather, so the hike requires proper trekking shoes.
For those who want to explore the views of the Gulf of Tigullio without much effort or avoid the descent on foot, there is a passenger cable car between the coast and the mountain peak, which has been operating since 1934.
