They want to make travelers pay for carelessness in the mountains Mallorca
Consell de Mallorca plans to change regulations to shift the financial costs of the rescue to tourists who acted with obvious negligence. This was announced by the head of the island Llorenç Galmés at the international exhibition World Travel Market in Londres.
The reason for the innovation was regular cases of recklessness on difficult trails: tourists go into mountain gorges in flip-flops or go hiking with children in dangerous weather conditions. According to the head of the island, such incidents occur almost daily in the Sierra de Tramontana massif, forcing rescuers to risk their own lives.
The administration emphasizes that the fee will apply only to cases of gross disregard for safety rules. Injuries due to ordinary falls or rescues due to sudden changes in weather will continue to be fully financed from the local budget.
To respond to emergencies, Bomberos de Mallorca increased funding by 36%, created 86 new positions, began construction of new units, and allocated the first specialized rescue helicopter.
