Automated drones are changing the work of rescuers in the Polish mountains
Mountain rescue operations in Poland are rethinking their approach to missions with the wider adoption of automated drone technology. They are using DJI Enterprise platforms to streamline rescue operations.
The use of autonomous systems is aimed at supporting search missions and accelerating assistance to victims in hard-to-reach areas.

Context
In the Polish Tatra Mountains, the TOPR mountain service uses a network of automated drone docking stations located directly near the high-altitude shelters in the Morskie Oko Valley and the Valley of Five Polish Ponds, as well as near the central rescue station. This system allows operators to remotely launch drones directly onto high-altitude routes in a matter of minutes, significantly reducing reconnaissance time.
In addition to visually inspecting dangerous couloirs and searching for missing people using thermal imaging, unmanned platforms act as couriers in conditions where a rescue helicopter cannot take off due to stormy weather. In particular, during tests, a heavy transport drone delivered a sixteen-kilogram rescue stretcher from Morskie Oko to the top of Rysy in eight minutes - a climb that would take a foot troop several hours.
