From day to dark: rescuers are trained in complex searches in the Os Ancares mountains
A specialized mountain rescue training course will be held in the town of San Román de Cervantes for volunteers from the local civil protection association. The training focuses on rapid response and safety during operations in the mountainous terrain of the Ancares-Lucenses Biosphere Reserve.
The program is funded by UNESCO, the Lugo Provincial Council and the Biosphere Reserve. The course will consist of six hours of morning theory and a packed evening session from 4:30 PM to 10:30 PM, during which participants will practice first aid techniques in both daylight and nighttime conditions.
Context
The mountainous region of Os Ancares is characterized by difficult terrain, unpredictable weather and remote settlements. In addition to rescuing tourists and fighting fires, the local civil protection service clears mountain roads of snowdrifts in winter to provide access to isolated mountain villages.
