In Uttarakhand, India, high-altitude routes were closed due to snowdrifts
In the Indian district Uttarkashi, the forest service has temporarily banned hiking on mountain trails above 4,000 meters. The popular route Gaumukh-Tapovan, located in the territory of Gangotri National Park, is also under restrictions.
The reason was heavy snowfall in the upper reaches of Himalayan, which covered the passes and created a danger for movement. According to the park administration, the heavy snowfall on October 29 left significant snowdrifts, so the issuance of passes to travelers was suspended until conditions stabilized and the trails were officially inspected by rescuers.
The restrictions apply exclusively to snow-covered high-altitude routes. Less high-altitude sites Gangotri National Park, including Nelang Valley and the historical trail Gartang Gali, continue to welcome tourists.
Context
The Gangotri National Park administration applies a differentiated approach to safety: the ban applies exclusively to high-mountain areas with significant snow accumulation, while other park excursion sites remain open for visitors.
