Lost during descent from Svinica: night rescue operation in Tatier
TOPR contacted colleagues from slovenskej for help after a 44-year-old man failed to return to the Chatu Murowaniec shelter after reaching the summit of Svinica. Since the mountain is located right on the border, it was assumed that due to bad weather and low visibility, the tourist could have lost his orientation and descended to the Slovak side.
Two mountain rescuers from Západné Tatry and a specialist from the avalanche prevention center joined the night search. A drone with a thermal imager and special equipment for mobile phone direction finding were used during the operation.
The traveler was found in Tichej doline, which he had been walking down after wandering. He was safe and sound. Rescuers transported the Pole to Podbanské, from where he continued his journey on his own, of his own free will.
