Kayakers on the Budhi Gandaki river in Nepal rushed to save a dog cut off by the water
An unusual rescue operation was successfully completed in the Nepalese district Gorkha: two experienced kayakers managed to reach a dog named Seti, who had spent 20 days trapped on a piece of land between a vertical cliff and turbulent waters Budhi Gandaki.
The animal was washed away during the flood on October 11, but managed to escape to an isolated area near Jagat Bagar on the border of the municipalities of Chumanubri and Dharche. When people noticed the dog, the owner Dayaram Karki, together with local residents, began feeding it by throwing cookies across the river. Local authorities initially planned to use a helicopter, but due to adverse weather and difficulties in obtaining a flight permit, this idea had to be abandoned.
The operation was joined by animal protection organization Animal Nepal, which contacted rafting experts from the Royal Beach Camp camp in the Dhading district. Despite the rain and strong current, kayakers Ram Silwal and Arun Thapaliya crossed the Budhi Gandaki floodwater, placed Seti in the kayak, and safely ferried it to the opposite shore, where the participants were greeted with traditional ceremonial hadak scarves.

Context
The Budhi Gandaki glacial river flows through a deep gorge between the Manaslu and Ganesh Himal mountain ranges and serves as a natural landmark for the popular Manaslu Ring trekking route. Due to the steep drop in altitude, the flow here is characterized by rapids of higher difficulty categories, and the canyon is known for its narrow gorges and tendency to sudden surges of water and mudflows during the rainy season.
