The accident occurred on Sunday, October 25, at around 5:30 p.m. on Highway BV-5114 near the municipality of Fogars de Montclús, north of Barcelone. A passenger bus operated by carrier Sagales collided with a car, then went off the side of the road and rolled approximately 20 meters into a ravine.
There were dozens of passengers in the cabin. Some people managed to climb the slope back to the roadway on their own, but others were trapped inside the deformed vehicle. In total, about 40 people were injured, with at least 20 passengers in serious condition.
The rescue operation involved about twenty fire crews, including two air groups, two medical helicopters and 15 ambulances. Traffic on the road between Arbúcies and Fogars was completely blocked, and a temporary support center was deployed in Sant Celoni to provide assistance to the victims.
