Night oxygen delivery and helicopter evacuation: slope rescue Ama Dablam
A 25-year-old Dutch climber, Klaas Post, successfully summited Mount Ama Dablam with two other climbers and guides on October 27, but collapsed at Camp 2 during the descent. His companions were able to descend to Camp 1 on their own, while the Dutchman was unable to proceed further.
Guides from the Makalu Adventure company were on duty with the victim all night. In the darkness, rescuers went down to the first camp to deliver oxygen cylinders to the second camp, necessary to save his life.
In the morning, the crew of the airline Kailash Helicopter, led by Captain Laurenz Elsasser, picked up the victim from Camp 2. The climber was first taken to Lukla with oxygen support, and then transferred to the hospital HAMS Hospital in Kathmandu. According to the organizers, the threat to life has now passed, and the victim's condition is assessed as stable.
