A Slovak hiker was evacuated from the icy north face of Jahňací štít in the High Tatras. On the afternoon of 18 October, he left the unmarked route from Kopské sedlo to the summit and could not continue on his own.

According to the HZS mountain rescue service, the man did not have adequate technical equipment for winter conditions. The coordinates he provided helped rescuers locate him quickly in the terrain.

Because of the terrain’s difficulty and the site’s remoteness, an air-ambulance helicopter from Poprad was called in. It picked up HZS rescuers in Starý Smokovec and evacuated the hiker there. He needed no further medical treatment and continued on his own.
