Yosemite open as Dome Fire hits 86%
The U.S. National Park Service said in its 13 October 2026 morning update that containment on Yosemite’s Dome Fire had risen to 86%. The perimeter had not changed for several days, activity was minimal, and visible smoke came from interior heat pockets. Incident command was due to transfer back to the park on 15 October.
Yosemite National Park is open and operating normally, with exceptions: trails inside the active fire footprint remain closed, including all south- and eastbound routes from Glacier Point Road, plus Buena Vista Trail. Chilnualna Falls and part of Alder Creek are open with limits. Sierra Sun Times adds about 6,788 acres burned and an estimated full containment date of 17 October.

Context
Once a fire “sits down,” the work becomes almost invisible from the valley: patrols, mopping up heat pockets — and, in the NPS note, mule trains hauling hose and gear out of remote wilderness. The fire may stop growing while trails inside the footprint stay closed for weeks: containment and cleanup run on different calendars.
