Denver7 and CBS Colorado, citing park officials, report that on 13 October 2026 Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park was temporarily closed because of poor visibility, ice and snow. Closures were at Rainbow Curve on the east side and Milner Pass on the west; a through drive between Estes Park and Grand Lake was not possible that day.

The park notes Trail Ridge Road was never meant as an all-season route: stretches above about 11,500 feet regularly see winter conditions. For the latest status, call the recorded line 970-586-1222 — conditions change quickly.

Context

Eleven miles of this road sit above roughly 11,500 feet — with few shoulders and scarce guardrails. So October’s “temporary” closures are not a freak event but the season’s first breath: snow can block the pass for hours or days, and the park hotline is often more useful than yesterday’s headline.
