How do you find a mushroom picker in Lombardy?
La Prealpina and La Stampa report that on the afternoon of 15 October 2026 rescuers searched the Verbano hinterland for a man born in 1963 who had gone mushroom picking and not returned. Ground teams from the fire service, Guardia di Finanza mountain rescue and CNSAS were already on scene.
At the same time Lombardy’s regional fire service mobile phone-network analysis unit worked with the flight section and helicopter Drago 166, fitted to detect mobile phones. Network data plus onboard gear narrowed the search to Caprezzo, Cappella Porta.
The crew spotted the picker from the air; two winch rescuers lifted him aboard and flew him to a safe landing where ground teams and medics were waiting. He was found alive.
