NapoliToday and Posideo report that on the evening of Sunday 12 October 2026 two hikers, both about thirty, from Battipaglia and Scafati became stuck on the Monti Lattari in Piano di Sorrento. On CAI path 300, while descending near Casanocillo, they entered thick woodland and brambles (rovi) and could not continue safely.

They called for help via the GeoResQ app. The alert reached the CNSAS operations centre in Cassano Irpino (Avellino). At first phone contact failed, so a search team and local Carabinieri were dispatched at once. After communications resumed, rescuers narrowed the search area with better location details.

CNSAS technicians and Carabinieri found both hikers in the woods, secured them and walked them back to their car. One had minor scrapes treated on site; both declined 118 medical care. The operation ended without further issues.
