Hemsedal: avalanche kills Guro Jordheim
Norway’s TV 2 reports that on 6 April 2026 (Easter Monday) an avalanche hit backcountry terrain near Hemsedal Ski Center. Police later named the dead as 29-year-old Guro Jordheim and 34-year-old Swedish resident Max Napoleon Andersson; both lived in Hemsedal.
Seven people were involved and four were caught in the slide, according to reports. Jordheim and Andersson were pronounced dead at the scene. Rescuers (including Red Cross crews) located everyone within about an hour after the alert around 11:10 a.m.
U.S. sports outlets add context: Jordheim was a former University of Utah skier (2017–2020), a seven-time All-American who helped win two NCAA titles. After returning to Norway she raced for Team Aker Dæhlie and retired in April 2025.
