Sweden’s Nyheter24 and Finland’s MTV Uutiset report the same story: on 29 September 2026 French freeride skier Juliette Willmann, 29, died in an avalanche on Cerro Crestón near El Chaltén in Argentine Patagonia.

According to their accounts of Argentine authorities’ reports, she was ski touring with her husband, mountain guide Pierre-Idris Mehdi; the slide carried the couple about 400 m. Other skiers in the area dug them out; Willmann was found under about 1.5 m of snow with no vital signs, and CPR failed. Rescuers confirmed her death around 5 p.m. local time. Mehdi survived and was evacuated for care.

Willmann lived in the Chamonix valley and had competed on the Freeride World Tour (including 4th overall in 2021). The French Ski Federation expressed deep sadness.
