What is Saklikent and why is it interesting?

This is a canyon in southwestern Turkey, about 18 km long and up to 300 meters deep - one of the deepest in the world. The water has been flowing here for thousands of years, so nature has done its job. The name translates as "hidden city".

Where is it and how to get there?

Canyon in Mugla province, Seydikemer district, about 50 km from Fethiye and 65 km from Kas. It is most convenient to go from Fethiye - tourists are regularly transported from there.

When is the best time to come?

In summer: in winter, the water level rises and deeper areas become inaccessible. You can walk about 4 km of the canyon already after April, when the melt water recedes.

What to do there?

Most travelers wander along the cold river on foot deep into the gorge. For the prepared, there is canyoning along the entire 16-kilometer length, abseiling near about 30 waterfalls, jeep safaris and even an overnight stay in a tented camp.

Is this a protected area?

Yes, since 1996, Saklikent has had the status of a national park. And in 2024, a wooden bridge was thrown across the river - now it has become a little more convenient to walk.
