Evacuations in the Slovak Tatras
On 10 October Horska záchranná služba (HZS) ran several call-outs in the Slovak mountains. In the West Tatras just below Ostrý Roháč, a 37-year-old Slovak woman became stuck on the red trail after a sudden intense fear blocked both ascent and descent. A rescuer was winched down from a helicopter at Zverovka; she was flown out uninjured and continued on her own. In the Low Tatras at Luková (Jasná) a 50-year-old hiker hit exhaustion and leg cramps on the descent — after first aid from a resort worker, HZS drove her by off-road vehicle to Biela Púť. In Malá Fatra a 50-year-old Polish woman injured her ankle descending from Suchý toward Chata pod Suchým; rescuers splinted the leg and took her to Nezbudská Lúčka.
The same day the Veľká Fatra HZS station renewed winter pole marking on the ridge: 450 poles replaced, about 60 km of routes refreshed. Thirty-five contracted volunteers and nine professional rescuers took part. The poles help when painted waymarks sit under snow or in fog and heavy snowfall.
