Khomiak Mountain

The hike begins in Tatariv, 200 m from the train station, where the road divides with one fork going towards Vorokhta and the other going towards Yablunytsia. Walk along the road towards Yablunytsia for 4 km to the bridge crossing over the stream. (After the bridge the road sharply turns away from the stream and into the mountain. Before the bridge on the left side of the road is a tourist campground, and on the right side is a gas station.) At this bridge, take the smaller road which forks off to the right and parallels the stream Prutets for an additional 1 km. Before the first tributary stream that flows into the Prutets from the right mountainside, take the trail which follows along the right side of this tributary. Shortly afterwards the trail crosses over to the left side of this tributary and then after about 2 hours leads to Polonyna Barania. From this meadow, the trail ascends to the left, at first through a forest, and then through dense growth of mountain pine towards the summit of Khomiak. To the northwest are views of the Gorgany mountains with the peaks Syniak (1665), Malyi Gorgan (1592), and Dovbushanka (1754).

To return either descend down the same trail you came up on or after descending to Polonyna Barania find the road which is about 150 m down to the left of the forest. This road cuts through the woods down into the valley of the stream Zhenets. The descent is quite steep. At the bottom the road leads into a large meadow where small homes come into view. Continue along the road which parallels Zhenets. After about an hour you will pass the protected forest tract between the villages Tatariv and Mykulychyn and arrive at the main road. Just beyond the turn in the road is a bus stop.
